Passing of Professor Tim Corkery
It is with great sadness that I report the death of Professor Timothy G. Corkery, who died unexpectedly on Saturday morning, August 15, 2015, after a very brief illness.
Professor Corkery graduated from York College in 1983 as a Speech Communication major. He also held a Master’s in Social Work, earned at Fordham University. At the time of his death he was the Coordinator of the Speech Program within the Department of Performing & Fine Arts. For the past several years he served as the Senate Parliamentarian, a position for which he was well suited. He had considerable experience as a debate coach, taught a course in argumentation, and possessed a well-worn copy of Robert’s Rules of Order.
Professor Corkery was an Irishman through and through. He had marched in many St. Patrick’s Day parades and could play the bagpipes. He brought to his classrooms a unique blend of high academic expectations, a curmudgeon’s style and a profound empathy.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine Ali, also a York graduate.
