President Eanes' Message on Haiti

Dear York College Community,

As most of you may be aware by now, the country of Haiti was hit by a 7.2 magnitude late last week, causing a death toll of reportedly more than 1400 thus far. Following the earthquake, the country has also had to endure a hurricane hitting their area. I extend sympathy to the Haitian community at York College and beyond our campus.

Anyone interested in donating items to help the Haitian people may do so at any police precinct throughout New York City. I ask for your voluntary participation in our efforts to assist the historic Caribbean nation.

“The Police Department says it will accept donations of medical supplies, personal-hygiene items, non-perishable food, baby food and flashlights for the island nation.” At this time, please extend grace to our students and colleagues sick with worry over the tragedy in their homeland.

Recall if you will, that ancient Greek “fabulist” Aesop admonished, “No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.”
