YCArts Fest: Let's Dance!
A shared evening of dance by York College's 2018-19 CUNY Dance Initiative resident artists: Matthew Westerby Dance Company and Mari Meade Dance Collective (MMDC).
Matthew Westerby Company's Save Me shows the contradiction between our public and private faces, and the conflicting impulses that exist below the surface in each of us. Mixing full-bodied, athletic movement with detailed gestures, Save Me is an abstract, yet deeply emotional portrayal of these opposing forces.
Mari Meade Dance Collective's On leaving follows two sisters as they embark on an epic journey after the loss of their mother. Their relationship is tested as they experience real, magical and emotional obstacles along the way, and find ways to support each other in a time of struggle. Sweeping, shifting music guides the sisters' journey and the convergence of the fantastical with reality.
