Student application for Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS).

York College of The City University of New York has been selected by the National Science Teachers Association to organize and host the 2023 New York City Metropolitan and New York Long Island regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (NYC Metro and NY LI JSHS). The symposium will select the student delegates to represent the Long Island region at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium organized by the National Science Teachers Association. The Symposium is tentatively scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 12, 2023, on the York College campus. 

All grades 9-12 high school students are eligible and invited to participate. All participating students must register and submit an abstract and research paper online at the national JSHS organization regional site by November 30, 2022. The abstract and research papers' electronic files must be named according to the national JSHS requirements:

Students will be able to submit their abstracts and research papers in one of the following categories:

1. Environmental ScienceEnvironmental Science/Engineering: Bioremediation, Ecosystems management, Environmental engineering, Land Resource Management, Pollution, toxicity; impact upon ecosystem
2. Biomedical SciencesBiomedical medicine, Microbiology, Cellular/Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Pharmacology, Virology
3. Life & Behavioral SciencesDevelopmental Biology, Plant Physiology, Population Genetics, General Biochemistry, Microbiology, Behavioral Sciences
4. Medicine & HealthBiochemistry, Bioengineering, Disease Diagnosis and Treatment, Epidemiology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Physiology, Pathology
5. Engineering & TechnologyAerospace, Aerodynamics, Electrical Engineering, Energy – Solar, Vehicle Development, Devices, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics

The submitted papers will be reviewed and evaluated by the JSHS judges (college faculty, practicing scientists, and engineers). The students whose papers receive the highest ratings from the judges will be invited to make a seminar presentation according to the JSHS guidelines (12 minutes for the presentation, and 6 minutes for questions and answers). Each presentation will be evaluated by committees, comprised of college faculty, practicing scientists, and engineers, following the guidelines of the National JSHS Symposium. The committees will select the high school student delegates representing the New York Long Island region at the National Symposium.

Participation in the NYC metropolitan and NY LI JSHS begins by submitting an online application and registration. Applications and registration will be accepted only online (strict adherence to the guidelines is required).  I am looking forward to meeting the future scientists of the world.
