It was a momentous evening filled with joy and emotion as the 2024-2025 York College Student Government Association (SGA) executive board was formally sworn in by Judge Cassandra Johnson, Justice of NYS Supreme Court. The ceremony, held last Tuesday in the faculty dining room, was attended by SGA family members, friends, and classmates.
Adult Learning Center hosts Spring GED Graduation
York College Adult Learning Center (ALC) held its GED graduation and awards ceremony on Tuesday, highlighting the determination and strength of its graduates to accomplish their educational goals. Donning all black caps and gowns, 11 students gracefully entered the campus’ amphitheater for a bright and sunny spring ceremony with a crowd of family members and friends in full attendance.
9/11 Remembrance Day
This morning, York’s Department of Public Safety held a wreath-laying ceremony in the courtyard of the A-CORE building to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 and pay tribute to the lives of so many people lost that day.

Forest fires in Canada have caused hazardous air quality conditions that put residents of the northern US, but especially New York City (NYC) residents, at risk for respiratory health effects. A grey haze obscured the sun and can potentially cause a severe episodic air pollution event by the transboundary emissions. This week, on the air quality index (AQI), NYC is ranked as the city with the highest air pollution levels in the world, significantly worse than the most polluted cities in India and China. It is blanketed by smoke and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) that can have a profound impact on human health and restrict outdoor activities.

Alum Jeff Lindor, founder and CEO of the Gentlemen’s Factory Inc., was the keynote speaker on Thursday at York’s 2024 Fall Convocation. A native of Haiti who immigrated to the United States as a youngster with his family and grew up in Coney Island, Lindor told students, faculty and staff gathered in the A-CORE Amphitheater that before enrolling at York, he questioned societal woes and searched for answers.
