Africana Studies Center

A Resource for Community Research

Mission of the Center

The Africana Studies Center promotes the study of the history, culture, and society of Africa and the African Diaspora. The Center is a resource, community space, and forum for colloquy, presentations and discussion. The Center is available to faculty, students and community groups in service of this ASC mission.

Location

The Africana Studies Center is located at 3B-04, in the Academic Core building at York College, 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Blvd in Jamaica, Queens.  Currently all programming and operations are online and can be found in the college's calendar of events.

Resources

The center offers a quiet space for study of Black history, culture, society and politics. In addition to a library containing over 2000 volumes, we have four computers linked to the internet and shelves of primary source materials from the 1970s and 1980s as well as the complete works of W.E.B. Du Bois.

The Center is currently operating remotely and all events and activities can be found in the college's calendar of events.

Activities

The ASC sponsors a diverse range of programs within the Center and, when too large for hosting, the College. We also sponsor field trips to cultural sites within the City of New York.

  • Africana Colloquium Series
  • African Diaspora Film Series
  • Current Events in Black Studies
