Nuray Yılmaz is dedicated to exploring the cultural framework of the Ottoman Empire, focusing on its influential role as an interregional power and its lasting contributions to the modern world. Her research delves into the death, burial, and commemorative rituals of the Empire, particularly examining 18th-20th-century cemeteries, gravestones, and other funerary markers. While her fieldwork is primarily based in Turkey, her studies extend across the broader regions of the Middle East, Southeast Europe, and North Africa.
