Math/CS Seminar Talk: Knots, Links and Polyhedral Graphs
Join us for the first Math/CS Seminar Talk of the Fall 2024 Semester.
Title
Knots, Links and Polyhedral Graphs
Speaker
Dr Joseph Malkevitch
Abstract
Mathematically a knot is a piece of string with its ends identified in 3-space. A link is a collection of possibly interlocking circles in 3-space. If one flattens a knot or link into a plane one can think of the resulting dots and lines diagram as a graph, which sometimes will represent a 3-dimensional polyhedron. Many unsolved questions suitable for student research will be raised. No prior knowledge required.
