Mondell Sealy Honored as Employee of the Month for December

Mondell Sealy is synonymous with dedication, creativity, and an unwavering passion for connecting York students with internships and career opportunities. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she was recently named Employee of the Month for December 2025.

Highlights from the nomination, submitted by Yvette Simmons, praised Sealy for her exceptional performance and deep commitment to student success. "Mondell consistently demonstrates excellence and directly supports the Career Services mission to empower students and alumni in achieving career success," Simmons wrote. "She leads initiatives that bridge the gap between York's academic programs, education, and employment, ensuring career programming remains responsive to industry needs."

Additional commendations noted that Sealy "makes herself available for almost all events on campus" and is "an action-oriented professional and model team player who consistently fosters a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing work environment."

The nomination also cited her proactive approach to collaboration, highlighting her efforts to engage colleagues across departments, including faculty, First Year Experience (FYE), which provides comprehensive support for new students, Accelerate, Complete, Engage (ACE), and external partners, to align career programming with broader institutional initiatives. She was further praised for always making time in her demanding schedule to provide personalized résumé feedback or conduct last-minute mock interviews, reinforcing her student-preparation for the real thing.

Earlier in her 16-year tenure at York, Sealy also successfully secured funding to purchase the Aviation Institute's first flight simulator, the Redbird. The grant also covered furnishings and wall-mounted screens for the space. This investment has enhanced hands-on training for Aviation students and provided community members with access to flight simulation, a critical experience for earning a pilot's license.

York College President Claudia Schrader affirmed many of these attributes during a brief ceremony honoring Sealy. "I was tickled pink -- and green -- to honor Mondell Sealy as York College of the City University of New York's December 2025 Employee of the Month," said Dr. Schrader. "As a Student Career Program Manager, she truly delivers on our mission of empowering students and alumni to achieve career success. She set a record today for the number of students who came out to celebrate her, which is no surprise. Mondell doesn't just point students in the right direction—she walks with them to their destination. Thank you, Mondell, for your many years of helping students land their dream jobs and for your countless contributions to York College."

Sealy, who received a certificate and plaque from the president, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition. "What matters most to me in my role in Career Services is the partnerships—the ability to collaborate across departments, programs, and with colleagues for the success of York students," she said. She highlighted several collaborative efforts, including strengthening York's relationship with Google and CUNY Tech Prep through the Computer and Mathematics Department; working with Shayla Pruitt, Director of First Year Experience, to recruit six first- and second-year students to attend the Thurgood Marshall College Fund DevCon Conference in Baltimore for the first time; and York's participation in the Gumbo Coalition University program with the National Urban League and Resorts World.

Sealy also noted York's record participation of 18 students in the 2025 program—many of them ACE students—thanks to the outreach of Suemanda Pompey, as well as collaboration with CSSD on the CUNY-wide Career Resource Expo. She further acknowledged the creation of an internship repository by Dr. Theresa Williams, which enables York to track student internship placements formally.

"Career Services does not work in a silo," Sealy said. "We operate as a collective within the York community to prepare students for lasting career success."
