York Delegation Has Day of Advocacy in Albany

March 6, 2018. Albany, NY – President Marcia Keizs and Dr. Earl Simons joined a 33-member delegation of York College students majoring in Social Work and their faculty advisor Dr. Selena T. Rodgers for their Annual Day in Albany.

They started at 9:00 am with a marathon of meetings with elected officials and their senior staff, to discuss policy issues and priorities of the Social Work students and the York College and CUNY state budget priorities.  In summary, the students made the case for the need for state legislators to increase funding in this budget to expand higher education opportunities for persons who are incarcerated and meet the eligibility requirements.  It is a current discussion in Albany and was welcomed by many legislators.

They also reminded state legislators of the continued need to maintain steady funding for the CUNY Senior colleges’ operating budgets, for critical maintenance funding and Special Initiatives capital funding; and requested funding for new capital construction in the name of the York College Academic Village and Conference Center.

The legislative budget negotiation process is moving to conclude with an adopted budget by April 1.

The delegation had a busy and productive day in Albany
