Mission Statement

The Milton G. Bassin Performing Arts Center primary goal is to serve York College, the greater Jamaica area and the Queens community as the primary arts space in the Jamaica area. We feel it is our mission to serve the community, become an asset to the Jamaica community, in addition to serving the college student body, faculty, and staff. To achieve this we have three objectives.

First, we serve the community as a Public Presentation Space. MGBPAC serves as a professional rental space available to professional and non-professional presenters. We encourage non-professionals, from churches to cultural community groups because we believe by uplifting community organizations we can all achieve higher goals. We also encourage college departments, student groups, and public officials to use our space, as we strive to provide the best production support that we can.

Secondly, we seek out Community Partnerships. Establishing community partnerships will become the platform on which we will build on at MGBPAC. Many emerging organizations do not have the resources, technical skill level or marketing tools to develop productions. With our combined effort, we can accomplish a higher production value and engage areas of the community we have yet to reach. Utilizing various partnership agreements, we are able to work with and present groups of all sizes and stages in their development.

Last but not least, is to present world-class acts to the greater Jamaica community through our Performing Arts Series. We look to continue presenting Grammy award-winning acts such as Cory Henry, Arturo O'Farrill, and Snarky Puppy; award-winning plays such as Platanos y Collard Greens and Welcome to America. These plays were presented first in Queens by the MGBPAC. As a result, productions such as these are now available to the community at an affordable price, close to home. We strive to bring a diverse range of acts reflecting the diverse community we are a part of.

With these three objectives, we hope to become a premiere performing arts venue in Jamaica, Queens and the New York City area.
