Carly Gieseler holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of South Florida. She is the author of The Voices of #MeToo (2019) and Gender-Reveal Parties as Mediated Events (2020). These texts reflect her teaching and research at the intersection of gender, media, and cultural studies. Her doctoral dissertation, “Performances of Sexuality and Gender in Extreme Sports Culture” led to publications and presentations exploring the performances of resistant femininities and adolescent masculinities in sports culture. As Associate Professor in Speech Communication at York College, she has created and taught courses in Gender and Communication, Sports Communication, and Persuasion and Propaganda. In addition to her teaching and scholarship, Dr. Gieseler serves as the Faculty Athletic Representative for York College and the CUNY Athletic Conference.
