Natali Bravo-Barbee

WEBVTT

00:00:06.140 --> 00:00:12.320
So my name is Natalie Bravo Barbie and for the
show I'm including

00:00:12.320 --> 00:00:18.620
a new piece called The Elusive Series. So my
quarantine period began

00:00:18.620 --> 00:00:24.890
a little before everyone else's because I had
a baby in December.

00:00:24.890 --> 00:00:30.940
I began quarantining in December and by the
time my maternity leave was

00:00:30.940 --> 00:00:37.150
up everybody else then was going into
quarantine. So I had a lot of time at home to sit

00:00:37.150 --> 00:00:43.160
and think about work while I was nursing my
infant and this is the perfect time to

00:00:43.160 --> 00:00:48.920
start my quarantine project. And so then the
Elusive Series was born.

00:00:48.920 --> 00:00:51.340
And it is based on cleaning

00:00:52.200 --> 00:00:56.220
products that became pretty elusive during the
pandemic.

00:00:56.220 --> 00:01:02.570
I began thinking about what was my important
what I wanted to remember from

00:01:02.580 --> 00:01:09.480
COVID. What were the objects that would stand
out and would make me think that was that's definitely

00:01:09.480 --> 00:01:14.330
COVID for me. My entire experience based on
these objects.

00:01:14.330 --> 00:01:19.320
And so Clorox, Lysol, Purell, hand sanitizers,
toilet paper,

00:01:19.320 --> 00:01:25.860
all those things became part of the
experience. I've always had kind of an attachment

00:01:25.860 --> 00:01:32.070
to objects in my work and so I appreciate them
and for their form and design.

00:01:32.240 --> 00:01:38.320
But this time they became more of a necessity
in my household and the appreciation became

00:01:38.320 --> 00:01:44.810
more in their usefulness. And so I was left
with a lot of these empty bottles after

00:01:44.810 --> 00:01:50.790
I used a lot of disinfectants to keep the
house clean because of COVID.

00:01:50.790 --> 00:01:56.850
So I started setting up little still lives and
photographing them and appreciating them for

00:01:56.850 --> 00:02:03.090
more than just what their useful ness was and
giving them a little bit more of life beyond being

00:02:03.090 --> 00:02:05.480
my household cleaner.

00:02:10.040 --> 00:02:12.280
Thank you.
