About the Faculty YEMMY Awards

The YEMMY Awards honor faculty who demonstrate exceptional commitment to teaching, service, assessment, mentorship, and student success. The name “YEMMY” combines “York” and “eminent,” signifyin the faculty’s dedication to student success and learning, while nodding to the “Emmys.” These awards recognize innovation, dedication, and substantial contributions to the academic community.

Nomination Process & Deadline

The Office of Academic Affairs accepts nominations for the YEMMY Awards during the Spring semester. These awards recognizes outstanding teaching, service, mentoring, assessment, and staff contributions to student success. All full-time and part-time York faculty may submit nominations, except for the Mentorship YEMMY, which is not open to faculty nominations. Faculty and staff are eligible to self-nominate for the Assessment award. Students may nominate a full-time or adjunct faculty member for the Mentorship Award.

The nomination summary must not exceed one page and should concisely describe why the nominee deserves the award with evidence of the nominee's excellence in the relevant award category.

Deadline: Submit all nominations by March 13, 2026 to academicaffairs@york.cuny.edu.

Students: Nominate a full-time or adjunct faculty member who has been a supportive and dedicated mentor by completing a short survey.

Award recipients will be honored at the annual YEMMY Award Ceremony on April 30, 2026.

Empowering Your Future

Excellence in Teaching & Innovation

Honors faculty who demonstrate excellence in teaching through the use of creative, inclusive, and effective pedagogical methods or materials. These educators engage, inspire, and connect with students, cultivate a positive learning environment, and promote critical thinking while valuing students' perspectives.

Excellence in Mentorship

Recognizes faculty nominated by students for outstanding mentorship that goes the classroom. These individuals offer steady support, guidance, and encouragement in academics, career growth, and personal development. They foster an inclusive environment in which students experience a sense of belonging and are empowered to develop.

Excellence in Supporting Student Success

Recognizes faculty and staff who demonstrate diligence and introduce innovative strategies to promote student success and strengthen the college community. Examples include adopting new teaching methods, initiating student engagement programs, or implementing other measurable improvements.

Excellence in Assessment

Recognizes innovative assessment projects that employ systematic data collection, review, and analysis to enhance programs or services. Emphasis is placed on student learning, curricular innovation, and the evaluation of academic programs. Submissions should demonstrate how the use of meaningful data leads to measurable improvements in programs and processes.

Excellence in Service

Honors faculty who go above and beyond in service, lead impactful initiatives, and demonstrate a strong commitment to the college community.

Eligibility

  • Full-time faculty and staff who have worked at the College since Fall 2021 or earlier.
  • Adjunct faculty who have taught at York College for at least six semesters.
