Black History and The Arts: Dap, Snap and Wrap

We will host Andre Zachary from the Renegade Performance Group for a movement experience entitled, "Dap, Snap and Wrap!"

This session will explore the history of greeting in the Black community also known as “dap” and create musical accompaniment to it. Secondly, we will analyze the history of the snap from its origins in the queer community to its arrival on the mainstream stage of “In Living Color.”

Lastly, we will discuss head wrapping, its revival in the Civil Rights Movement and its resurgence in Black culture today. In this context, movement will increase self-awareness through mind-body connection, improve stress reduction, enhance mood and mindfulness and encourages students to take on challenges.
