We will host Carl Clay from Black Spectrum Theatre for a screening, artist talk and improvisation workshop with our students.
Carl Clay has had profound impact in theatre and in providing art to the Queens community for over 50 years. Carl opened up Black Love on the grounds of what is now the York College gymnasium, it was the Storefront Museum then, the first museum to house Black Art in New York at the time. While exploring this rich history, we will also screen Black Love, have a conversation on relationship skills and end the session with an improvisation workshop. Improvisation can enhance socioemotional skills such as active listening, spontaneity, boost creativity, build confidence and self-esteem as well as encourage empathy and teamwork.
