York College Fair Offers School Supplies and Resources to Community

York College, in partnership with the NYC Administration for Children's Services (ACS), hosted a back-to-school fair yesterday (Aug. 12), which aimed to support the community by providing a wide range of resources. More than 350 community residents were able to lighten the load of back-to-school shopping by receiving backpacks, notebooks, pencils, erasers, clothes, sneakers, essential supplies and more.

“As a place of higher learning, we are a resource to the community in so many ways,” said Dr. Rachael Walton of York’s Student Activities, who organized the fair. “This is one of the ways we let the community know we are here for them and make sure they’re ready to return to school and have supplies.”

ACS Commissioner Jess Dannhauser and Associate Commissioner Marsha Kellam attended the fair.

Tents were set up in the campus’ Amphitheatre, and 19 city agencies and community groups handed out school supplies and resource information to children and parents. There was also music played by YCradio.org, York College Radio Station, and lunch was provided.
