SAT/ACT Fee Reimbursement

The STEP Program can reimburse any SAT/ACT test that was taken during the 2024-2025 school year! Please email us at step@york.cuny.edu with a receipt.

The SAT Practice Test will be done digitally, which provides the opportunity for you to take it at your convenience. You can start doing your test at any time; however, the deadline to take your practice test is December 8, 2024.

To get started, complete the York College STEP Program SAT Registration Form. Then, follow the instructions using the SAT Practice Test Link to take your SAT Practice Test.

As part of York College’s Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), we are scheduling STEM Trips for you and your family. Let’s prove that we can learn about science and technology anywhere while staying safe and healthy.

Sunday, October 20th, 2024: iFly Museum (Queens)

The York STEP Team will offer free tutoring for the SAT and ACT in early 2024. Our tutors will be specialized to assist in reading, writing, mathematics, and science. Learn important study skills and strategies to prepare you for the test! For Practice tests, kindly see SAT and ACT Practice Test.

College Now participants must be NYC public school or state-funded private school students.

Application Process:

To apply, be sure to follow these four steps:

2. Apply for a CUNY EMPL ID# if you do not already have one [CUNY EMPL ID Application Link].

3. Download and complete the College Now application and Parent Consent form [College Now & Parent Consent Application Form].

4. Email the completed form along with a copy of your latest High School Transcript to: step@york.cuny.edu.

It is never too early to start. Join our College Now classes and earn college credits!! BUS201 Computer Applications in Business is one of our fantastic College Now course opportunities. BUS201 introduces students to the design and implementation of computerized information systems, covering applications that include computerized spreadsheets, word processing, graphics, and database management.

York STEP Students entering 10-12 grade can apply now for the York STEP Summer Research Program. Apply now to gain valuable STEM research experience and earn a $1,000 stipend.

Selected students will join college faculty research programs, attend seminars, and participate in exciting scholarly events. The STEP Summer Research Program will begin on 07/1/2024 and continue for seven weeks. The program will culminate the student presentations at York College STEP Day of Service, Sunday, November 10, 2024. (Please email step@york.cuny.edu for further details.

Non-STEP students must first complete the STEP general application before applying to York College STEP Program Application.

Current STEP Students should submit the following York College STEP Summer Research Program application.

York STEP Chromebook Loan Program

Students borrow and use our Chromebooks for one year. So get a STEP Chromebook today and STEM up your fun this summer! Supplies are limited, and a waitlist will start if all devices are on loan.

Join our virtual summer coding Bootcamp, and you can pick up some coding skills. You will learn various programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript from scratch. In addition, you will gain the skills needed to build websites and get started on becoming a web developer.

Scratch is a free coding language and online community. Its easy-to-use interface can be appreciated at any age. Learn to create games, animations, and more!

We’re excited to invite you to York College STEP’s upcoming Day of Service on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM! The event will be held in Room 2D01 at the York College Academic Core campus (94-20 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., Jamaica, NY 11451).

One of the highlights of this event will be the Spring 2025 STEM Research Presentations. Students who participated in our Spring Research Program will showcase their projects, diving into topics that reflect their curiosity, hard work, and growing expertise in science, technology, and social impact. You won’t want to miss these thoughtful and innovative presentations!

We’re also honored to welcome two distinguished guest speakers whose work bridges education, leadership, and opportunity:

• Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram is an MIT alumnus, award-winning educator, educational counselor, and consultant with deep expertise in academic policy and international education. He has served as an advisor to global universities, governments, and major corporations—and brings a wealth of insight about college admissions, leadership, and learning.

• Mr. Lawrence Fauntleroy, Director of Experiential Learning at Lehman College School of Business, is known for his groundbreaking efforts in connecting students to real-world tech careers. From leading the CUNY 2X Tech Talent Pipeline to empowering student entrepreneurs through Blackstone LaunchPad, Mr. Fauntleroy has helped hundreds of students land jobs and build thriving futures in today’s innovation-driven economy.

“Build, Code, Compete: Tech Explorers!” 📅 July 7 – July 31, 2025 | 🕙 Mon – Thurs, 10 AM – 3 PM 🎓 For rising 10th–12th grade STEP students 📍 In-person at York College Academic Core Campus

In this 4-week camp, students will dive into the world of cybersecurity, blockchain, and artificial intelligence through interactive lessons, coding challenges, and real-world projects. From tracing web requests and encrypting messages to building a mini blockchain and training chatbots, participants will explore the cutting edge of computer engineering while working together in teams.

“Build, Code, Compete: Robotics Adventure!” 📅 August 4 – August 14, 2025 | 🕙 Mon – Thurs, 10 AM – 3 PM 🎓 For rising 7th–9th grade STEP students 📍 In-person at York College Academic Core Campus

This fast-paced, 2-week robotics camp introduces students to the foundations of robotics design and coding using kits like LEGO Mindstorms or VEX IQ. Students will work in teams to build robots, program them to complete missions, and prepare for the thrilling Robot Games Showcase, where they’ll compete in challenges like obstacle courses and object pickup.
