Summer Research Program- Applications are open!

(for students entering 11 - 12 grade in Fall 2022)

Rising York STEP high school juniors and seniors can apply for the York STEP Summer Research Program. Apply now to gain valuable STEM research experience and earn a $1,000 stipend.

Selected students will join college faculty research programs, attend seminars, and participate in exciting scholarly events. The STEP Summer Research Program will begin on 7/1/22 and continue for six weeks. The program will culminate the first week of August with student presentations at York College's High School and Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Non-STEP students must first complete the STEP general application before applying here:

A faculty committee will review the applications and select participants. The application deadline is 6/13/22.

York STEP Virtual Tutoring & Regents Study Groups

(For all grades!)

Would you like a Tutor to double-check your homework, prepare for final exams/projects, practice for the Regents, or give you test-taking tips and academic advice?  

Tutors are available by subject and grade level (in parenthesis next to their names). We have Spanish, Science, and History tutors in addition to Math and ELA! You must be an accepted York STEP Student to get these free services. Please read below:

  • Sessions are scheduled in 1-hour increments.
  • Appointments: 
    • Appointments can be scheduled 3+ hours in advance.
    • When an appointment is made, the student and the tutor will receive confirmation emails.

Learn to think like a scientist with this popular STEM software. No prerequisite is required! We will have two separate virtual classes on Saturdays and Sundays. 

(for grades 8-12)

  • Dates: 3/5 - 6/18 (Saturdays or Sundays 10 AM - 12 PM).

Learn Website development from the pros! Boost your resume and college application with this crucial skill in many STEM careers. We will have two separate virtual classes on Sundays and Thursdays. 

(for all grades)

  • Dates: 5/8/22 - 6/26/22 (Sundays 10 AM - 12 PM or Thursdays 6PM - 8PM).

College Now free college courses and textbooks

(for students in 10-12 grade)

College Now participants must be NYC public school or state-funded private school students. York STEP students can choose to enroll in one College Now course for the Summer 2022 semester.

  • College Now - College-credit courses (Saturdays 9 AM - 1 PM) 
    CS172 - Computer Science I, Summer 2022 (Start date: TBA)
    It is never too early to start. Join our College Now classes and earn college credits!! CS172 Computer Science I is one of our fantastic College Now course opportunities. CS172 offers an introduction to computer science with a strong emphasis on a systematic approach to problem-solving. Core programming principles are also introduced and illustrated through examples in a high-level programming language such as C++ and applications in natural and social sciences and finance.
  • College Now - College-credit courses (Saturdays 9 AM - 1 PM)
    BUS201 - Computer Applications in Business, Summer 2022 (Start date: TBA)  It is never too early to start. Join our College Now classes and earn college credits!! BUS201 Computer Applications in Business is one of our fantastic College Now course opportunities. BUS201 introduces students to the design and implementation of computerized information systems, covering applications that include computerized spreadsheets, word processing, graphics, and database management.

Registration for the Summer semester will open in May 2022.

York STEP Spring Virtual Coding!

(for grades 7-8)

Join us virtually via Zoom to learn 21st-century coding skills! Our small class size is the best way for kids to stay engaged and develop problem-solving and coding skills.

No prior experience is required!

Dates: April - June 2022

The application opens in Winter 2022. 

HTML/CSS Coding Summer Bootcamp

(July - August 2022)

Join our virtual summer coding Bootcamp, and you can pick up some coding skills. You will learn various programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript from scratch. In addition, you will gain the skills needed to build websites and get started on becoming a web developer.

Session I for students entering grades 7-9

  • Dates: July - August 2022.
  • Course Topics: HTML, CSS, Responsive CSS & Box Model, CSS Flexbox, CSS Frameworks, Course Projects

Session II for students entering grades 10-12

  • Dates: July - August 2022. 
  • Course Topics: HTML, CSS, Responsive CSS & Box Model, JavaScript, Course Projects

As part of York College’s Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), we are scheduling Virtual Field Trips for you and your family. Let’s prove that we can learn about science and technology anywhere while staying safe and healthy. We will have in-person trips this spring.

Amazon Future Engineer Class Chat

Exposure to STEM careers increases a student's likelihood to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Amazon Engineer Class Chat volunteers will share their personal career stories and insight into work in tech and answer your students' career questions. Class Chats are live, interactive, and available to STEP Students and their families.

NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center

The Explore Flight program! During the program, we will discuss NASA aeronautics technology and how the administration solves flight challenges on Earth and Mars.

NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center

The Mission Explorers: Design a Spacecraft! We will discuss the components of a solar system, spacecraft technology, and why it is necessary to explore the solar system during the program. Then we will engineer our own spacecraft!
