Director's Profile

Glenn Lewis is Director of Journalism, and Professor of English, at York College where he created the curriculum and syllabi for the BA in Journalism Degree program.

 He is also a Professor at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, where he served as a member of the founding Curriculum Committee and Admissions Committee, and currently teaches Feature Writing and Narrative Journalism. He was the Faculty Advisor to Pandora's Box, York's student newspaper, for 22 years and the publication won more than two dozen major college newspaper awards during his tenure.

Prof. Lewis is the founding Chair of the CUNY Journalism Discipline Committee. He currently serves as director of the CUNY Journalism School Undergraduate Initiative. He is also a long-standing University Faculty Senator and a member the UFS Status of the Faculty Committee.

At York College, Professor Lewis is a member of the English Department P&B Committee and he supervises the Journalism fieldwork courses, internships, graduate school and job placements. At the University, he is a founding member of the CUNY Student Media Conference Steering Committee and a member of the School of Journalism Governance Council.

Professor Lewis, a veteran journalist and author, has written about Journalism, education, business, sports and societal trends for a wide range of media outlets. His work has appeared in publications such as Publishers WeeklySportCar & DriverUSSeventeenGEOSunday Daily News and Philadelphia Inquirer among many others. He co-authored a popular health and advice book for Henry Holt, co-created The Southside Sluggers Baseball Mysteries series for Simon & Schuster, and served as founding president and creative director for Book Smart, Inc. He also wrote a long series of Behind the Book profiles for Library Journal on legendary journalists such as Walter Cronkite, David Halberstam, Jim Lehrer, Betty Friedan and Studs Terkel, among others.

Professor Lewis was the Editor, and sole writer, of the Key Documents Volume of the Encyclopedia of Journalism for Sage Publications. The encyclopedia won the Dartmouth Medal (Honorable Mention) as one of the three most prestigious reference publications of 2009. Lewis is also an on-air Journalism and Media expert for Fox TV-News -- and Fox Online and Radio.
