Community Health Education

The Community Health Education major prepares students with the theory and skills of planning programs, designing and implementing interventions, conducting outreach and advocacy, and tackling the barriers to health equity. This multidisciplinary program is designed to bring together individuals, communities, and organizations to promote health and well-being.

Students gain practical experience through a semester of fieldwork.

Upon completing the degree program, students can sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam.

The major prepares students for careers promoting health and well-being in non-profits, healthcare, public agencies, and community organizations.

The Community Health Education major is offered in two modalities.

  • Hybrid (mix of online and in-person): Learn community health education through face-to-face classes, hands-on projects, and real-world practice at York College.
  • Fully online: Learn to design, deliver, and evaluate community health programs – on your own schedule, from anywhere.

Health Education (Minor): The Health Education minor provides non-majors with an introduction to community health education and promotion, disease prevention, outreach and advocacy, and strategies to tackle barriers to health equity.
