Public Health (Community Health Concentration)

The mission of York College's undergraduate public health program is to engage in teaching, learning, scholarship and service to foster and sustain a healthier New York City and to promote culturally responsive, evidence-informed solutions to reduce disparities and promote health and wellness among urban populations. Upon completion of the degree, students will be better equipped to complete graduate education in public health or begin working in the field as a public health practitioner.

Public Health Application (BS)

If you’re a current York student who is interested in earning a BS in Public Health at York College, the first step is to declare a Community Health Education Major. Public Health at York College is a limited enrollment program (LEP). This means students must meet specific requirements before officially entering the major.

To be eligible, students must have:

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for all coursework completed
  • Completed at least four of the following courses (12 credits) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in these PH courses:
    • PH 201
    • PH 210
    • PH 215
    • PH 225
    • PH 320
    • PH 330
    • PH 340

While the program accepts applications on a rolling basis, cohorts are admitted to begin in the fall semester each academic year.  Thus, while students may apply and be accepted in the winter, spring, or summer, cohort coursework will not begin until the following fall.

If you are currently taking courses in preparation to apply, we encourage you to reach out to publichealth@york.cuny.edu to meet with a faculty advisor. This meeting can help you clarify your graduation timeline and ensure your course sequence aligns with the Public Health curriculum, which may differ from that of the Community Health Education major.

Students should apply to the Public Health major during the fall or spring prior to completing the four prerequisite courses.

In completing this application, please be sure to answer all questions and provide all materials. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

**If you are completing an associate degree in public health at BMCC, QCC, or LGCC (CUNY) as part of an articulation agreement, you do not need to complete this application.**
