Office of the Ombudsperson

York College's Office of the Ombudsperson is an impartial entity dedicated to providing assistance to students. Our office offers a safe and confidential environment to assist with college-related concerns, complaints, or disputes that have not been resolved through traditional channels. Additionally, we provide information and clarification on the college's policies and procedures.

Goals

Our goals include:

Raising awareness, understanding, and utilization of the Ombuds Services.
Educating students about the fair and equitable process for resolving issues and concerns.
Establishing a systemic feedback process to facilitate continuous process improvement.

Services

We provide guidance to help address both academic and non-academic issues. Our services include:

Academic Services

Academic Policies and Standards: Clarifying university policies and standards to ensure compliance and understanding.
Academic Misconduct/Integrity: Support and guide students in cases of academic misconduct, such as plagiarism, while promoting academic integrity.
Formal and Informal Complaints: We offer assistance and advice on navigating the process of filing formal or informal complaints related to academic matters.

Non-Academic Services

Student Conduct: Addressing concerns, disputes, and complaints related to student conduct in a confidential and supportive manner.
Food Insecurity Resources: Connecting students with resources and support to address food insecurity and basic needs.
Accessing Campus Resources: Assisting individuals in accessing and navigating the array of campus resources available for support and assistance.

Student Complaint Form

All complaints are taken seriously and will be reviewed by the appropriate departments responsible for such submissions. You should expect to receive an acknowledgment and follow-up.
