Dr. Schrader's Welcome Wagon travels NYC to personally greet incoming students and assure them of York College support.

In 2020, President Schrader established the York College Welcome Wagon to bring the spirit of the campus directly to the community. By visiting incoming students across New York City, she demonstrates that York leadership is available and ready to champion their academic journey. This commitment to student-centered engagement has been highlighted by Spectrum News NY1 and several national publications.

It was raining cats, dogs and a whole zoo of animals👀, but Cindy was looking forward to my visit, and I was too excited to welcome her as one of our newest hashtagtransfer students from LaGuardia Community College to York College of the City University of New York. Cancelling my visit was not an option. Because just like the Post Office has their unofficial saying about "neither snow nor rain” keeping them from their appointed rounds, I have mine: If rain don’t stop no carnival, it sure won’t stop our hashtag#WelcomeWagon!!!

It’s that time of year when families gather together and CUNY is no exception. Where else would I be able get to know Kingsborough Community College alum and current KCC Foundation Board chair Kwesi W. Blackman, MD, MBA who visited me a few weeks ago at York and told me about his niece Shakira who graduated from Queensborough Community College of The City University of New York (CUNY), transferred to York College of the City University of New York and after a year has decided to readmit and finish what she started!! But best of all the next generation, her baby girl India gets to have front row seat to the power of CUNY.

We messed up. Usually the York College of the City University of New York apparel is the last gift in the bag, but it was on top of the heap for Andrea. And it’s not like she needed its warmth, because her spirit AND her passion for learning AND her soon to be Community Health major AND her love for hashtag#CUNY (Kingsborough Community College ➡️ York College of the City University of New York and then next up ➡️ CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy is burning hot like fyaah! 🔥Welcome to York!!! A.
