Institutional Advancement

The Office of Institutional Advancement supports, encourages, and promotes York College's academic mission and vision.

Mission

to advance the mission of the College by enhancing student success; fostering faculty growth by securing resources for current operations and capital projects; marketing the institution to targeted audiences and publics; and enhancing relationships with the region’s business, nonprofit and civic communities.

To fulfill its mission, Institutional Advancement solicits and receives gifts and pledges of money and other property, both real and personal; by outright gift; by planned gift arrangements; and by bequest. Institutional Advancement is the primary channel for all gifts to the College from all private sources.

To maximize private funding sources and to extend the best practices across campus, Institutional Advancement integrates its planning process with the schools, departments, and other divisions, as evidenced by the creation of The Case for York and its annual advancement goals.

Institutional Advancement recognizes the critical importance of philanthropic contributions to the continued existence of the College. Institutional Advancement further recognizes the responsibility to ensure that gifts from external sources:

  • Are appropriate to the mission of the College;
  • Do not carry restrictions or conditions that may compromise the College;
  •  Are legal;
  • Are from donors whose intent are charitable; and
  • Are administered to protect donor’s rights and wishes.

Institutional Advancement adheres to the code of ethics and professional standards approved by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the National Planned Giving Council (NPGC) and the Donor Bill of Rights.

Mission: a component of Institutional Advancement is to properly steward and acknowledge every gift to the College by way of written correspondence, recognition societies, and cultivation events.

The College has embraced the traditional concept of stewardship which can be defined as the act of managing and supervising another’s property while caring for the owner of that property. Stewardship begins with thanking donors and donors’ families for their gifts to our institution. If the gift is a planned gift, stewardship includes administering the gift properly at York College and providing donors with appropriate financial information about their gift. Stewardship also includes reporting information to a donor about the use of donated funds and ensures that the donor is satisfied with the way the gift is used. A critical part of the stewardship process is continued cultivation that may include, at some point, soliciting the donor for additional gifts.

All private gifts and pledges to the York College Foundation are recorded, receipted, and acknowledged by the Division of Institutional Advancement. The current system used for tracking gifts and pledges is Raiser’s Edge (RE). CASE Management Reporting Standards are used in recording and counting gifts and pledges.
