Need a Demo of the HyFlex Room?
- Visit the Technologies in the classroom page to confirm your classroom is a Hyflex room. There are three Hyflex statuses:
- Hyflex Offline - Room is targeted for Hyflex
- Hyflex In Progress - Room can be used for distance learning but minimum Hyflex standard options are still pending
- Hyflex Ready - The room is fully operational with all aspects of Hyflex's minimum standard
- To schedule a hands-on or virtual review of the technology in these classrooms-- Coordinate with your department chair or your associate dean then submit a request at email@example.com put the date and time and we will respond with a confirmation and a room. Please be aware this is not training, it's a review of technology in these classrooms.
Recommendations and Checklist
- Review all the below videos
- Make sure your Blackboard course is created
- Be sure your Class Zoom session is scheduled
- Check that students know the link to your Zoom session
- Use the Class Room Lectern to start your meeting (The camera in the room will only capture your Zoom meeting when started from the lectern)
- Be aware that Hyflex installations will continue into the Fall semester and follow-up will be needed by IT, B&G, and Facilities to insure all the components are installed and properly working
- Visit the Technologies in the classroom page to confirm your classroom is a Hyflex Ready room.
- Go to Blackboard at York Blackboard
- Log in to your CUNY Zoom account to schedule your class meetings. Afterwards, post the meeting information in your Bb course site.
- Schedule recurring Zoom meetings for the days and times of your classes.
- The following presets are recommended for classes in Zoom:
- *Host Video On
- *Participant Video On
- *Mute participants upon entry
- *Record the meeting automatically In the cloud (never locally)
- You may also set the sound notification when someone joins or leaves to Host and co-hosts only as this can be very distracting to the session. While in Zoom, go to Settings and set the Sound notification to Host and co-hosts only.

We strongly recommend that you use Zoom as it requires less bandwidth than Bb Collaborate Ultra and has auto-generated live transcript feature. Both of the advantages will increase the accessibility of the instructions.
- Open Blackboard at York Blackboard
- Go to your course and click on the Zoom link.
- Click on Launch.
- Zoom should be on the Upcoming Meetings tab. If not, click on it.
- Click the Start button next to the link for that day/session.
- Start your teaching lesson
Note: Be sure to select your camera and audio options while in Zoom
- Manage your Zoom session by allowing the online viewers to ask questions instead of raising their hands virtually.
- Be sure to connect your Zoom session to the Hyflex camera and not the camera on the monitor of the lectern.
- Connect the Array microphone as the default for sound in your Zoom session.
- If you are using a document camera, when you turn it on, you will also have this as a camera option in Zoom. You can choose between the Huddlecam Simple Track 2 camera (Hyflex), the default webcam on the monitor which is only pointing to you, and the document camera if the unit is on. There may also be another camera option called "Owl Pro" to choose from. They all do the same thing
- To manage the manual movement of the Huddlecam Simple Track 2 camera, click in the search field at the bottom left corner of the lectern computer screen and type, "Huddlecam" this will bring up the Huddlecam remote. Click on it and check that it is connected to the camera. Below are instructions in case the remote is not connected. Using this virtual remote you can manually override the tracking camera.

- Log out of Blackboard.
- Log out of Zoom. (Zoom stays logged in and the next instructor will be accessing your Zoom session)
- Log out of the lectern computer. (no need to power off the computer)
- Turn off projector or document camera if it was in use.
Note: You may use either a wall panel or control box on the lectern to turn off the projector
You can launch your synchronous Zoom session using 2 options:
- Launch your BB course and click on the Zoom session via your course (preferred)
- you can click on the Zoom icon on the desktop.
Once the Zoom software launches
- Confirm your audio and video icons are activated.
- Confirm you can see the correct camera on the software. Make sure the camera is positioned in the way you want before you begin your live session. You can also select the document camera as an input if one is available. In addition, there may be a third option called "Owl Pro" which is another camera in the room that has a 360 view of everyone.
- Start your lecture and make sure your Zoom class session is recording if you need it.
Zoom is now recording your lecture. Now you can either continue with your lecture by moving about in front of the classroom as you do normally or you can launch a program from your computer such as a presentation or a web page or any other application.
Zoom Classroom Tips
- To switch between cameras, select Alt+N on the keyboard.
- Disable the Zoom chime in your settings at cuny.zoom.us
When you’re projecting in the classroom, by default you're projecting to the screen in the duplicate mode so the students will see your entire screen including your Zoom controls. Note that you can hide your Zoom controls on the screen. In many rooms, there will be a display screen where you will see your students and what you are sharing on the screen.
