Class of 2018, Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) and English Language Arts (Grades 7-9)

My name is Varsha Misir and I am a proud 2018 alumni of CUNY, York College where I graduated with my Bachelors and subsequently received my certification as Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) and English Language Arts (Grades 7-9) teacher. In 2020, I earned my masters at ACE University in Curriculum and Instruction. The professors within York’s Department of Teacher Education equipped me with the necessary tools to be the effective educator I am currently.

Beyond merely teaching us how to be educators, the professors modeled effective teaching habits. The constant support, highly effective lectures, and nurturing environment that were established within the education courses classrooms are habits that I have adopted and mirrored within my own practice.

Through the partnerships established between the department and NYCDOE partner schools, I was hired at MS358Q and it has been an amazing three years thus far. In addition, to creating safe learning environments for my students, I have also been able to accommodate each of my students by being culturally responsive and providing each student with equitable learning opportunities.

To prospective educators, I strongly recommend York College’s Department of Teacher Education. The program is highly effective, the course work truly prepares you for the classroom and you get the socio- emotional support needed to succeed in college.
