Summer/Winter

York College offers financial aid options to help eligible students pay for courses taken outside the traditional fall and spring semesters, including summer and winter sessions. For summer, students may qualify for the Year-Round Pell Grant, which allows those who are Pell-eligible and have remaining lifetime eligibility to receive additional funding beyond the standard academic year. To be considered, students must complete the FAFSA and meet federal and state eligibility requirements; in some cases, enrolling in summer courses can help maintain academic progress and accelerate degree completion.

For the winter session, financial aid works differently. Winter courses are billed separately but count toward a student’s spring enrollment. Students typically need to either pay out of pocket or rely on excess spring financial aid to cover winter costs. In some cases, enrolling in winter classes may increase overall credit enrollment, which can raise Pell Grant eligibility or allow access to federal loans, potentially resulting in a refund that can be used toward winter expenses.

Both summer and winter sessions provide opportunities for students to earn credits faster, stay on track for graduation, and meet financial aid program requirements (such as credit completion benchmarks). However, eligibility and award amounts depend on factors like enrollment status, FAFSA completion, and available aid for the academic year.
